FIGHT CLUB ARTEFACT: FINAL SCENE

Upon a lot of further discussion, we sadly left the destroyed aspect of the apartment behind as it would be too time consuming considering how long we had to create it. We wanted to maintain the same level of quality while also getting our message across in the artefact. Therefore, we started to brainstorm ideas of how we could maybe show the split personality theme in a more implicit way. We thought of drastically changing the lighting mid way through the scene, playing around with the colours or even splicing in frames of Tyler's image into the final edit as an homage to how it's done in the film. So, once we had everything modelled, we assembled it into the virtual apartment and textured everything. One of the final years, Edward, reminded us of an interesting easter-egg featured in the film; the fact that there's a Starbucks coffee cup placed somewhere in every scene of the movie. Fincher decided to place this omnipresent symbol throughout the film as a representation of deep rooted consumerism and how it lingers in our everyday lives. We thought this was such a clever concept, so we wanted to include it somehow in our own apartment scene. Once Chloe had modelled the cup itself and imported it, we began playing around with placement. After some time experimenting we came up with the idea of having the cup revealed at the end. In order to do so, we placed the apartment itself on top of the cup,  have the camera pan around the room and zoom out to reveal the cup.

Once we had the final scene rendered after some technical difficulties, Piers took the file and edited it in Adobe Premiere Pro. We went with the idea of splicing in frames of Tyler and the Narrator, while also contrasting two types of music and colour scheme. Tyler's portion was going to be harsh and coloured red. I was very happy with the final outcome as Piers had done a great job of the editing, including an effective VHS like transition between the two tones and even applied a cigarette burn effect to Tyler's portion (another homage to the movie). I felt that it really captured the contrast of order vs chaos.
